overdraft protection

what is overdraft protection?

KCCU offers overdraft protection as a convenience to protect you against high fees and the embarrassment associated with “bounced checks” or having your purchases declined. Overdraft protection allows you to make purchases even if you have insufficient funds in your account.

how overdraft protection works

Rather than automatically returning your unpaid overdraft items or being declined when trying to make a purchase, KCCU will authorize and pay reasonable overdrafts, for qualified members, as long as you maintain your account in good standing.

Overdraft Protection Options

Share Overdraft Protection

Link your checking account to another account (such as your savings) and have funds automatically transferred between the two accounts if you overdraft. There is a $5 per transfer fee.

Checking Line-of-Credit

A checking line-of-credit is a loan attached to your checking account. If you run out of money, the line of credit can pay for expenses so you don’t bounce checks or have your debit card denied.

Standard Courtesy Pay

Courtesy Pay is a service we add to your checking account to cover overdrafts to a set limit. This service allows us to authorize payment for the following types of transactions regardless of whether your share or deposit account has sufficient funds: (1) share drafts/checks and other transactions made using your checking account, except as otherwise described below; (2) automatic bill payments; (3) and ACH transactions.

For ATM and one-time debit card transactions, you must affirmatively consent to such coverage. Without your consent, the Credit Union may not authorize and pay an ATM or one-time debit card transaction that will result in insufficient funds in your account.

With Courtesy Pay we will generally pay your overdraft items up to $1,000, however, whether your overdraft will be paid is discretionary and we reserve the right not to pay. For example, we typically do not pay overdrafts if your account is not in good standing, or you are not making regular deposits, or if you have too many overdrafts. When we pay overdraft items for you, you will be charged our normal Courtesy Pay fee, currently $30, for each item that is presented. If your account balance remains negative it should be brought back to a positive balance within 15 days. For full details, see the courtesy pay disclosure
